NLP ( Neuro-Linguistic Programming )

NLP or Neuro-Linguistic Programming was developed jointly by Richard Bandler and John Grinder. It is a widely accepted skill-set system built on the relationship between one’s neurology, language and programming and the powerful impact that relationship has on one’s life.

These three components are what typically make up every experience we have as humans.

1. Our Neurological System is responsible for every single function of the body.

2. Our Language is the avenue which we use to communicate.

3. The Programming sets forth a vision of the world as we see it.

NLP is one of the most powerful skills used in business management, psychology, sales, sports coaching and all forms of personal development.

NLP was discovered by watching therapeutic experts doing what they did and modelling their behaviour so that it could be taught to others to allow them to achieve the same results.

It’s an attitude and a methodology that leaves behind a trail of techniques…” Richard Bandler

NLP is the psychology of achievement and inter-personal communication” – Chris Howard

NLP is a powerful model of human experience and communication.

The name of the field refers to (Neuro) the human nervous system, including the brain and the five senses,

(Linguistic) the verbal and non-verbal languages with which we communicate and (Programming) the ability to structure our neurological and linguistic systems to achieve desired results” -pp

NLP can help you to:

  • Be more successful by learning to influence your emotional and psychological states.
  • Replace negative behaviours and habits with positive ones.
  • Transform the way you go about everyday tasks.
  • Be more aware of your impact on others and how to manage your behaviour for optimal results.
  • Better understand your own motivations, needs and behaviours and use these positively to have the greatest impact.
  • Better understand your staff’s and customer’s needs, motivations and behaviours.

Here’s a few definitions that I’ve learned from the various books and audio materials that I’ve studied to get you started:-

“”It’s an attitude that has to do with curiosity, with wanting to know about things, wanting to be able to influence things, and wanting to be able to influence them in a way that’s worthwhile” – Richard Bandler in Using Your Brain For A Change.
